Harmony Assistant is developed by French programmers Didier and Olivier Guillion [1]. Development (done on in C language and assembly language) was started in 1982. They were writing software for music and multimedia. They are located in Toulouse.
The program was released to the public in 1996. The software is release as shareware. Users of the software and programmers collaborate to improve and evolve the software.
Harmony Assistant's primary function [2] is the creation, editing and printing of musical scores. It supports a large number of music notations, enabling even the most complex of scores (such as modern orchestral music) to be reproduced.
Additionally, it allows scores to be played back or turned into MIDI or audio files. A range of sampled sounds can be purchased as an extra as part of the GOLD sound base.
Versions of Harmony Assistant are available in English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese. Manuals are online on the Myriad web site.
Add-ons for Harmony Assistant which are available include the GOLD sound base, Virtual Singer to sing lyrics, and OMeR to scan paper music scores.
Harmony Assistant is used by professionals and amateurs for composing, arranging and writing out music.
